TROY, Ala. — Mental health challenges among college students are a growing concern, with studies showing that mental health issues are the leading cause of students dropping out of college nationwide. Recognizing the importance of addressing these concerns, Troy University has introduced a new resource aimed at offering around-the-clock mental health support for its students.
TimelyCare, a free, 24/7 virtual mental health service, is now available to all full-time students at Troy University. Grace Wagstaff, the university’s Title IX Coordinator for Student Services, explained how students can easily access the app. “If you’re a full-time student registered at Troy’s campus, simply download the app and use your Troy credentials to log in,” she said. “It’s that simple.”
The TimelyCare app provides a wide range of services designed to support students’ mental and emotional well-being. These services include scheduled counseling sessions, psychiatric support, health coaching, assistance with basic needs, as well as self-care and peer support tools.
“It’s a comprehensive addition to what students already have access to in terms of wellness resources here on campus,” Wagstaff noted. “For self-care, the app offers modules on topics like yoga, meditation for stress relief, and more. There are hundreds of options available to help students on their personal wellness journeys.”
One of the app’s standout features is its ability to connect students with live professionals for counseling sessions within hours. For more urgent situations, TimelyCare offers an on-demand support option called TalkNow.
“The TalkNow feature is especially helpful in a crisis,” said Wagstaff. “For example, if it’s 2:30 a.m. and you’re experiencing a panic attack, you can connect with a professional in just minutes. Not only will they provide immediate mental health support, but they’ll also connect you with any additional resources you may need.”
Wagstaff emphasized that the app’s 24/7 availability is what distinguishes TimelyCare from other campus resources. “A crisis doesn’t wait for an appointment,” she said. “Having round-the-clock access is crucial for meeting the evolving needs of our students.”
TimelyCare also works in partnership with other campus resources, including the Office of Civic Engagement and Student Counseling Services, to ensure students receive the comprehensive care they need.
