As part of the First Fortnight Festival, Improvised Music Company (IMC) will host its Cooler Clinics event, offering musicians an opportunity to explore mental health resources and discuss industry challenges. This free CPD event (Continuing Professional Development) provides 1:1 consultations and is aimed at jazz and improvising musicians. The event focuses on mental health, offering practical support, resources, and guidance tailored to the unique challenges of working in the music industry.

This special session is held in partnership with First Fortnight, a charity dedicated to mental health awareness through the arts, and Minding Creative Minds, a mental health initiative supporting those in the creative industries. Together, they will outline valuable resources for musicians and discuss practical paths for accessing support.

1:1 Consultations: There will be a limited number of individual consultation slots where musicians can speak privately with the IMC team to discuss mental health concerns or career challenges.
Expert Speaker: Ann Marie Shields, a prominent figure in the Irish music industry, will speak about the intersection of music and mental health. Ann is the Director of Minding Creative Minds and has a wealth of experience in the industry, having worked in London, New York, and Ireland as an artist manager, tour manager, and label founder. She currently heads Careers, Events, and Industry at BIMM, where she also runs AMS Records.
Open Discussion: In addition to individual consultations, the event will provide a space for open discussions about the challenges of working in the music industry, particularly the mental health challenges that musicians face.
