The Boston Bruins are teaming up with Mass General Brigham to host Mental Health Awareness Night on Tuesday, January 14, during their home game against the Tampa Bay Lightning at TD Garden. The event will highlight the importance of mental health, with a variety of activities and recognitions designed to raise awareness and provide resources for those in need.
One of the key highlights of the night is the recognition of Dr. Katherine Koh as the Community All-Star, presented by the Massachusetts State Lottery. Dr. Koh is a street psychiatrist with the Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), where she provides essential mental health care to individuals experiencing homelessness. Known for her leadership in street psychiatry, Dr. Koh’s work is a pioneering model for delivering mental health services in public spaces and helping individuals transition into stable housing.
Throughout the game, fans will have the opportunity to engage with Shoulder Check, an initiative focused on promoting mental health awareness through small acts of support. Representatives from Shoulder Check will be stationed behind Loge 20, where fans can pick up “I Check On” cards, sharing why they prioritize checking in on the mental well-being of their loved ones. The initiative encourages open conversations around mental health and offers support to those in need.
Additionally, the Boston Bruins Foundation 50/50 Raffle, presented by DraftKings, will support the Massachusetts General Hospital Hispanic Psychiatry Clinic. This resident-led initiative provides specialized psychiatric services to Spanish-speaking patients. Fans can participate in the raffle until the beginning of the third period, with proceeds benefiting this important service.
Mass General Brigham, the Official Sports Medicine and Orthopedics Provider for the Boston Bruins, has been a longstanding partner of the team. With over 50 years of collaboration, Mass General Brigham includes some of the top-ranked hospitals in the country for psychiatry, such as Massachusetts General Hospital and McLean Hospital. The partnership underscores the Bruins’ commitment to mental health, providing fans with valuable resources to support mental well-being.
The evening will serve as a powerful reminder of the importance of mental health awareness, support, and resources, with the Bruins and Mass General Brigham leading the way in fostering a conversation about mental well-being within the community.
