Heath, Texas — Mindful Health, an innovative outpatient mental health provider, has announced an extension of its funding round, bringing the total to $12 million. The company, which initially raised $6 million in an oversubscribed round, aims to use the additional capital to accelerate its clinic expansion and strengthen its comprehensive outpatient mental health services.
Eric Griffin, principal at WP Global Partners — the lead investor backing Mindful Health — confirmed the extension, noting that the company’s expansion strategy is designed to increase access to its integrated, all-in-one mental health services. The company offers a range of treatments, including therapy, medication management, holistic wellness, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient care, nasal esketamine, and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). Additionally, Mindful Health provides telehealth and virtual programming to enhance accessibility.
“These service models that both reduce healthcare costs and improve care quality are essential for future success,” Griffin told Behavioral Health Business. “Businesses that can deliver on both fronts are the ones we’re most excited about, and Mindful Health certainly fits that profile.”
A Vision for a “Mental Health Home”
Founded in 2021, Mindful Health launched its services in April 2022, with seed funding provided by WP Global Partners. The company’s CEO, Jennifer Wood, who co-founded the company, previously served as the CEO and owner of Psych Now LLC and was executive vice president of Texas operations for MindCare Solutions.
Wood’s vision for Mindful Health is to create a “mental health home” — a place where patients receive integrated, continuous care throughout their mental health journey. “We want to be a comprehensive support system for our clients,” she said. “Rather than referring patients out to other providers, we keep them within our system to ensure they receive the ongoing care they need.”
Currently, Mindful Health operates four clinics across Texas, with plans to add four more by the end of 2025 and an additional four to eight clinics in 2026. The company’s expansion strategy focuses on targeting areas that are experiencing rapid population growth but are underserved by existing mental health providers.
Focus on High-Quality, Integrated Care
Mindful Health distinguishes itself by offering a range of services under one roof, creating a holistic approach to patient care. The company emphasizes a “spa-like” atmosphere in its clinics, providing a boutique-style environment that fosters a sense of calm and comfort for patients. This environment aims to counter the typical “revolving door” phenomenon in mental health care, where patients cycle through providers without consistent, long-term support.
“We can wrap our arms around our clientele and support them through their entire mental health journey,” Wood explained. “We don’t have to refer them elsewhere. We keep them with us and ensure they get the best possible care.”
In addition to its outpatient services, Mindful Health works closely with hospitals to ensure patients have access to higher levels of care if necessary, creating a seamless care continuum.
Demographic and Revenue Insights
The majority of Mindful Health’s patients are adults aged 20 to 50, though the company also offers pediatric services for children as young as five. The company primarily generates revenue through contracts with commercial payers, with about 20% of patients paying out-of-pocket. Notably, Mindful Health does not accept Medicaid, focusing instead on more traditional insurance providers.
Wood highlighted the financial model behind the company’s success, noting that services like therapy have very thin profit margins, while treatments such as TMS and esketamine have more robust margins. These treatments are particularly effective for patients with conditions like major depressive disorder, potentially offering a path to remission.
“We have a financial and clinical incentive to treat patients at the appropriate level of care for the right duration,” Wood said. “Our goal is to help patients on their path to recovery while maintaining a sustainable business model.”
Recruiting Challenges and Future Expansion
Looking ahead, Mindful Health faces significant challenges in scaling its operations. Chief among them is the recruitment of qualified behavioral health staff and physicians who align with the company’s integrated care model. As the company expands into new communities, finding areas that meet its population growth criteria while also attracting top-tier clinicians will be a key hurdle.
“The demand for quality behavioral health professionals is high, and finding communities that can support both our clinical model and our business needs is going to be challenging,” Wood said.
Despite these challenges, Mindful Health’s commitment to providing high-quality, integrated mental health care positions the company for significant growth in the coming years. The $12 million funding round will help the company expand its footprint, offering critical mental health services to communities in need while continuing to refine its approach to care.
