Island residents are being encouraged to seek mental health support during the holiday season, with services available throughout Christmas for those in need.
The Listening Lounge, which offers support to individuals aged 18 and over with mental health issues, is providing access to help via the digital mental health platform, TogetherAll, available online at all times.
Andy Weir, Director of Mental Health Services and Adult Social Care, reassured the public that mental health support would remain accessible throughout the festive period.
“Early mental health support is crucial for those facing challenges, particularly during the holidays,” Weir said. “Christmas can be a difficult time for many, and if you are struggling, please don’t hesitate to reach out for support.”
The Listening Lounge has shared several tips for maintaining mental well-being during the Christmas season:
- Acknowledge your emotions and practice self-compassion to help process feelings.
- Reach out to friends, family, or support services, including the Listening Lounge at 01534 866793 or the Samaritans at 116 123.
- Limit social media use and spend time in nature.
- Engage in self-care activities like mindfulness, exercise, or hobbies.
- Set small, achievable goals to create a sense of structure and accomplishment.
The Listening Lounge will operate from 10:00 to 20:00 GMT, Monday through Saturday, with reduced hours on Christmas Eve (10:00 to 18:00). The service will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day.
