PERTH, Australia — Chevron Australia has pledged an additional $2.3 million to support youth mental health initiatives through its ongoing partnership with the mental health organization zero2hero. This funding will enhance zero2hero’s resilience and compassion-building programs, aimed at raising mental health awareness and preventing suicide among young people in Western Australia.
As part of its role as an Empowerment Partner, Chevron’s new contribution will help zero2hero reach 38,000 young people across Perth and the Pilbara region over the next three years. The programs focus on equipping youth with the tools they need to manage mental health challenges, build resilience, and support peers who may be struggling.
Ashlee Harrison, CEO of zero2hero, expressed immense gratitude for Chevron’s continued support, emphasizing the transformative impact of the funding. “Simply put, without this support, thousands of young people would not benefit from our mental health and wellbeing programs,” Harrison said. “The rates of youth mental health and suicide are at crisis levels. Unless we invest in prevention, we will not see a shift in these devastating trends.”
The funds will allow zero2hero to continue its critical work in schools, community groups, and youth organizations. These programs focus on prevention, resilience building, and increasing youth awareness about mental health issues, aiming to create long-term positive changes in the mental health landscape for young people.
Wes Johnson, General Manager of Strategy, Planning, and Commercial at Chevron Australia, reiterated the company’s commitment to empowering young people and fostering positive mental health outcomes. “We are delighted to continue to support the important work of zero2hero, engaging and empowering young people across Perth and regional WA to become mental health heroes,” Johnson said.
Chevron’s backing also reinforces the role of peer support and community involvement in managing mental health challenges. Johnson highlighted how zero2hero’s programs provide participants with essential knowledge and tools to take charge of their mental wellbeing and extend support to others facing mental health difficulties.
“zero2hero programs engage tens of thousands of young people, providing them with the knowledge and tools to positively manage and maintain their mental health and support others to do the same,” he added.
This renewed funding marks a significant milestone in the partnership between Chevron and zero2hero, ensuring that the organization can continue its vital mission of building resilience and fostering a brighter future for young people in Perth and the Pilbara. Through Chevron’s support, zero2hero aims to empower youth with the resources they need to navigate mental health challenges and contribute to a supportive, compassionate community.
The new funding will further strengthen zero2hero’s ability to make a lasting impact on youth mental health in Western Australia, helping to prevent mental health crises and reduce suicide rates, which continue to be a major concern in the region.
