Perth-based VC Fund Purpose Ventures has spearheaded a $4 million funding round for My Mirror, a digital mental health platform aimed at addressing critical gaps in psychological care. The funding marks a significant step for the startup, founded by Dr. Matthew Zoeller and Josh Liwszyc, as it prepares for platform enhancements and an expansion into the New Zealand market.
A Growing Mental Health Solution
Launched five years ago, My Mirror has facilitated over 60,000 psychology sessions for 18,000 individuals, offering accessible telehealth services to clients across Australia. The platform connects key stakeholders in the mental health ecosystem—including clinicians, clients, GPs, and referrers—while reducing wait times and barriers to care.
Co-founder Dr. Matthew Zoeller, an intensive care consultant, was inspired to create the platform after witnessing the mental health challenges faced by frontline healthcare workers. CEO Josh Liwszyc, who spent over a decade in the resources industry, also observed similar issues affecting mental health accessibility.
“Our mission is to provide same-day availability to high-quality psychology services for all Australians,” said Liwszyc.
Purpose Ventures and Strategic Growth
The funding round, which included support from existing and new investors like Roger Allen, highlights the growing confidence in My Mirror’s potential.
Derek Gerrard, Managing Director of Purpose Ventures, praised the startup’s vision and momentum: “We were very impressed with the team and their growth since our first meeting last year. This investment reflects the robust activity within the Western Australian startup ecosystem.”
My Mirror is the seventh investment by Purpose Ventures, following a $2 million raise for SpaceToCo, a venue booking platform.
Tackling Australia’s Mental Health Challenges
Australia’s mental health system faces hurdles like long waitlists, limited funding, and access barriers. My Mirror addresses these challenges through its interoperable digital solution, which connects referrers, triage services, funding sources, and clinicians.
The platform serves diverse markets, including:
- Medicare-funded and private sessions
- Employee Assistance Programs (EAP)
- Insurer and Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) services
- National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)
Expansion Plans
With its new funding, My Mirror aims to:
Enhance its platform to improve user experience and service delivery.
Expand operations to New Zealand, replicating its success in Australia.
A Promising Future
The mental health crisis, underscored by limited resources and rising demand, creates a vital need for innovative solutions like My Mirror. The startup’s progress and Purpose Ventures’ backing position it as a key player in transforming the accessibility and efficiency of mental health care in Australia and beyond.
As My Mirror continues to grow, its impact on improving mental health services is set to resonate across communities, providing much-needed support to those in need.
