The SECU Foundation has awarded a significant $750,000 challenge grant to the Lucy Daniels Center (LDC) for the construction of a new youth mental health facility and resource center at its campus headquarters in Cary, North Carolina. This new addition, known as the SECU Therapy Wing, will significantly expand the center’s capacity, enabling it to triple the number of children it serves each year.
LDC, a leading provider of social, emotional, and mental health services for children aged birth through 11 years, has been a cornerstone in the Triangle area for over 35 years. The new facility will allow LDC to support over 1,500 children and their families annually, providing essential therapeutic services to help young people overcome mental health challenges and develop the tools they need for personal growth and success.
The SECU Foundation’s grant comes in recognition of the growing demand for these services and the critical role LDC plays in addressing the mental health needs of young children. Chris Ayers, Chair of the SECU Foundation Board, expressed his excitement about the project, noting that the foundation’s funding is intended to inspire further support from the community and enhance access to mental health services for more families.
Dr. Emily Odjaghian, Executive Director of LDC, expressed profound gratitude for the foundation’s continued investment, emphasizing how the new facility will help strengthen the mental health resources available to the youngest members of the community. With the SECU Foundation’s partnership, LDC is poised to make a lasting impact on the future of child mental health care in North Carolina.
