The Islamic Center of Detroit (ICD) has officially opened its My Mental Wellness center, a new mental health facility that aims to provide essential services to the community. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Wednesday to commemorate the launch of this faith-based center, which is believed to be the first of its kind located within a mosque in the United States.
Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan highlighted the center’s significance, reflecting on ICD’s growth from modest beginnings to becoming a vital hub for community support. “ICD is now the center of this community,” he said. “I’ve participated in food programs, youth initiatives, and recreation activities here. The opening of a mental health clinic is going to serve the whole community. It’s just a terrific day for Detroit.”
The My Mental Wellness center offers a range of services, including free on-site and virtual therapy and counseling sessions, American Sign Language (ASL) services, career coaching, annual health fairs, and programs specifically designed for the special needs community.
Since its inception, the center has already served 200 individuals, and ICD plans to expand its healthcare offerings to better meet the needs of the community in the near future.
