The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) is set to expand its Mental Fitness Program in collaboration with the Black Dog Institute, with the goal of reaching over 35,000 high school students across Australia in 2024. This partnership features athletes such as Rebecca Henderson and Nick Lavery sharing their personal experiences and evidence-based mental health strategies.
The Black Dog Institute will provide scientifically supported resources for these presentations, which aim to enhance resilience and promote overall well-being. This initiative reflects the AIS’s commitment to holistic athlete development and its broader mission to improve youth mental health.
By merging expert insights with relatable athlete narratives, the program makes mental health discussions more accessible to young audiences. It emphasizes the significance of mental fitness alongside physical performance, working to destigmatize mental health issues while equipping students with practical tools for managing their well-being. This expansion underscores AIS’s dedication to fostering resilience not only among athletes but also within the wider community.
Representatives from both AIS and the Black Dog Institute will be presenting at the Ministry of Sport – Wellbeing in Sport Summit in Sydney on Wednesday, November 20.
