Local, state, and federal leaders gathered to celebrate the ribbon-cutting ceremony for My Mental Wellness Center, a new mental health facility located within the Islamic Center of Detroit.
“I want people to see our faith as a testament to our shared humanity,” said Rep. Rashida Tlaib. “If you ever feel invisible, remember that your actions speak volumes.”
The facility boasts a diverse team of therapists, clinical psychologists, counselors, and social workers dedicated to providing high-quality care, with a particular emphasis on cultural sensitivity and faith-based practices.
“Across many cultures, mental health issues are often shrouded in silence and misunderstanding,” noted Danish Hasan, director of the Islamic Center of Detroit. “Many individuals perceive discussions about mental health as a sign of weakness, which can lead to isolation and despair. Our clinic is more than just a facility; it is a safe haven for those seeking support.”
My Mental Wellness Center offers both in-person and virtual appointments to accommodate various needs.
“There are too many barriers preventing individuals from achieving optimal health,” said Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist II. “The establishment of this community-focused infrastructure, created through the dedication and intellect of committed leaders, is truly inspiring.”
Emphasizing the belief that everyone deserves happiness and well-being, Gilchrist added, “It starts here at My Mental Wellness in Detroit.”
Looking ahead, My Mental Wellness has announced plans to open a second location aimed at serving youth at the Fairlane Club in Dearborn, further extending its outreach and support within the community.
