Ranchi: In a significant step toward promoting mental well-being and reducing stigma associated with mental health issues, a month-long awareness program was launched in the state capital on October 10, coinciding with World Mental Health Day. The initiative will continue until November 10, engaging various segments of the community.
This program aims to educate workers, students, and youth about the importance of mental health and the benefits of seeking counseling. Covering 18 blocks across the Ranchi district, the initiative is designed to ensure wide reach and engagement within the community.
The program features a variety of workshops, seminars, and interactive sessions led by experts in mental health, including psychiatrists and psychologists. These sessions will focus on the significance of prevention over treatment, emphasizing proactive measures to maintain mental well-being.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Prabhat Kumar highlighted the program’s objectives, stating, “These sessions aim to engage students in meaningful discussions about mental health, equipping them with the tools and knowledge necessary to address their emotional well-being. Additionally, a fun game will be organized as a stress relief activity.”
Dr. Kumar underscored the importance of creating a supportive environment where students feel comfortable discussing their mental health and seeking help. He stated, “By addressing these concerns head-on, the program aims to create a supportive community.”
Participants will be encouraged to share their experiences and coping strategies, fostering peer support networks that can extend beyond the program. The interactive nature of the sessions is designed to break down barriers and facilitate open conversations about mental health.
Dr. Pawan Kumar Burnwal, a psychiatrist at Vedanta Hospital, emphasized the critical role of family members in supporting their loved ones’ mental health. He remarked, “Family members should be supportive, as they are often the first to recognize the mental health conditions of their loved ones. If any doubts or concerns arise, it’s important to seek counseling promptly.”
Through this initiative, Ranchi aims to cultivate a culture of understanding and support surrounding mental health, encouraging individuals to prioritize their mental well-being and seek help when needed.
