Pierre, South Dakota — As September comes to a close, marking the end of Suicide Prevention Month, the conversation around mental health continues to resonate deeply in the Pierre community. The 437 Project made a notable stop at the American Legion cabin, where Dacia Stark shared her personal mental health journey with a supportive audience gathered on the shaded patio.
Reflecting on her experiences, Stark described a pivotal moment that changed her life: a heartfelt conversation with her father during what she considered the lowest point of her life. This turning point inspired her to not only seek help but also to assist others facing similar challenges.
The 437 Project aims to raise awareness and funding for mental health initiatives. To date, it has successfully raised over $315,000 for the Helpline Center and the 9-8-8 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, further emphasizing the ongoing need for mental health support and awareness in the community. Stark’s story, along with the project’s mission, highlights the importance of open dialogue about mental health year-round.
