EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) — On Saturday, Northstar Middle School welcomed hundreds of attendees for a conference focused on mental health resources tailored to the Hmong community.
In collaboration with the Mayo Clinic and other organizations, this year’s Hmong mental health conference emphasized culturally relevant discussions on mental health issues. Mayo Clinic staff highlighted the event as an important opportunity for community members to engage with peers and professionals about topics unique to their cultural background and history.
The conference addressed critical issues such as addiction, depression, anxiety, and healthy coping strategies. Brook Berg from the Mayo Clinic Health System expressed hope that the event would foster a sense of community and understanding. “The aim is to reassure participants that they’re not alone and that mental wellness is a vital aspect of overall health. It’s important to talk about it, and it’s okay not to be okay. We want to ensure everyone knows what resources are available,” Berg stated.
This marks the second Hmong health conference hosted in the Chippewa Valley, following last year’s focus on chronic disease prevention and stroke awareness.
