A men’s mental health initiative in Deeside has received a significant funding boost from Flintshire homebuilder Anwyl Homes. The Art and Soul Tribe community interest company (CIC) secured a £1,000 donation through Anwyl’s “Love from Anwyl” fund to enhance its Men’s Space project.
The Men’s Space program features a combination of nature-based activities, fitness, crafts, and games like pool and chess, all designed to improve participants’ mental health. The initiative provides a relaxed environment for men to connect, share experiences, and learn stress-reduction techniques while enjoying outdoor activities.
Jessica Sparks, director at Art and Soul Tribe CIC, emphasized the project’s focus on creating a safe, non-judgmental space for men to discuss challenges and foster camaraderie. She noted that addressing mental health can be particularly challenging for men, often due to stigma, and highlighted the appeal of the group’s outdoor activities and supportive community.
Participants have shared positive experiences, with one noting, “With hindsight, I can see how vital the help I’ve had has been. I wouldn’t have progressed as far without Art and Soul Tribe.” Another attendee mentioned how the sessions helped him manage social anxiety, stating, “I struggle being around people, but during these sessions, I’ve even talked to new people. I leave feeling accomplished and calm.”
The Men’s Space initiative collaborates with local organizations, including The Sandpit, Man-to-Man, and Wilderness Tribe CIC, focusing on male mental health and nature-based healing. Together, they provide mental health support, advocacy, and referrals to additional services.
Graeme Gibb, sales director for Anwyl Homes Cheshire and North Wales, expressed pride in supporting the initiative, stating, “Our Love from Anwyl funds are aimed at supporting organizations like Art and Soul Tribe, which do vital work in our communities. Mental health is a subject many men find difficult to discuss, but groups like this create a comfortable environment for conversation and socialization. We’re pleased our donation has funded several Men’s Space sessions.”
Anwyl Homes is also dedicated to promoting mental health within its workforce, with around 30 employees trained in mental health first aid and access to a 24/7 confidential support line. Earlier this year, the company partnered with the Lighthouse Club Charity as part of its “Make it Visible” tour to raise mental health awareness on its building sites.
