The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Ciarán McQuillan, has announced a partnership with the Northern Ireland charity MindWise, marking the first of two charity collaborations during his term. MindWise aims to create a world where mental health and well-being are prioritized by all.
Councillor McQuillan, from Dunloy, stated, “I chose to partner with MindWise to address the stigma surrounding mental health for men in rural communities.” He emphasized the need to normalize seeking help, particularly in tight-knit areas where individuals may feel hesitant to share their struggles.
As Council’s Mental Health Champion, he expressed enthusiasm for the newly launched Sport & Wellbeing Grant, which offers up to £500 for community initiatives promoting mental health through physical and mental wellness activities. McQuillan aims to foster conversations about mental health in schools and community groups to encourage early intervention.
Amy Stothers, Engagement Co-Ordinator at MindWise, welcomed the partnership, expressing gratitude for the Mayor’s support in raising awareness about mental health initiatives throughout his term.
