MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Suicide remains a critical issue in the United States, claiming a life every 11 minutes, according to the CDC. Local resident Julie Randall knows this pain all too well; she lost her brother-in-law, Andrew, to suicide in 2015, following struggles with depression.
In response to this ongoing crisis, Randall, along with Josh Berkson, CEO of Lucille and Merchant, discussed the upcoming second annual “Drewfest,” set for Sunday, September 29. The event, initiated by the Randall family last year, aims to promote mental health awareness and raise funds for local programs.
“We wanted to advocate for better mental health resources in the Madison community and help end the stigma,” said Randall.
This year’s festivities will take place at Lucille in downtown Madison from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Berkson expressed pride in partnering for the event, emphasizing Lucille’s role as a hub for advocacy. “Lucille is more than just a pizzeria; it’s a venue for expression and activism,” he stated.
Leigh Mills will serve as emcee for Drewfest. Tickets for the event can be purchased through the provided link.
