BREVARD COUNTY, Cocoa, Florida — In recognition of September as Suicide Prevention Month, the UF/IFAS Extension Office in Cocoa will be hosting Mental Health First Aid training starting September 30. This initiative aims to raise awareness and provide essential skills to address mental health and substance use challenges.
The training, which will be held at the UF/IFAS Extension Office (3695 Lake Drive, Cocoa, FL 32926), is designed to combat the stigma surrounding mental health and substance use. By educating participants on recognizing early and worsening signs of mental health and substance use issues, the program equips individuals to offer timely and effective support.
Mental Health First Aid training is a powerful educational tool that helps participants understand how to assist those experiencing mental health or substance use crises, fostering an environment where recovery is possible and support is accessible.
The cost for registration starts at $65 per person. Participants are required to complete a 2-hour self-paced online assignment prior to attending the in-person training.
This program reflects the commitment to improving mental health awareness and support within the community, empowering individuals to make a significant difference in the lives of those around them.
