Edmonton — The Government of Alberta has committed $70 million over the next three years to establish up to 60 new CASA Mental Health Classrooms across the province. This funding, part of a partnership with CASA Mental Health, aims to enhance support for students facing significant mental health challenges.
This month, nine new mental health classrooms have been inaugurated in the following communities:
- Bishop Carroll High School, Calgary
- St. Cyril School, Calgary
- St. Joseph Catholic High School, Edmonton
- Rosslyn Junior High School, Edmonton
- Bev Facey Community High School, Sherwood Park
- H.E. Bourgoin School, Bonnyville
- Senator Riley School, High River
- St. Gabriel School, Fort McMurray
- Pines Alternative School, Red Deer
Minister of Mental Health and Addiction, Dan Williams, highlighted the importance of these classrooms: “Services like these are crucial for the long-term success and well-being of children and youth dealing with severe mental health challenges. Every child deserves to know that support is available and that they can recover and lead fulfilling lives. Our government is committed to continuing such investments to transform the lives of children, youth, and their families.”
The new classrooms are designed to provide specialized support while ensuring that students can continue their education, marking a significant step in addressing mental health needs within Alberta’s schools.
