The Wild One Wilden Trail Run is set to make a triumphant return on Saturday, September 21, 2024, after a year’s hiatus due to the McDougall Creek wildfire. This year’s event promises to be the most exciting yet, featuring a variety of trail runs in Wilden’s picturesque backcountry while raising vital funds for youth mental health.
The sixth annual Wild One Wilden Trail Run invites participants of all ages and abilities to join in the fun. Events include a 1K kids’ run, a 5K run and walk (dog-friendly), and a 10K course, catering to all fitness levels. The inclusive event encourages runners, walkers, and even their furry friends to take part.
Proceeds from the Wild One Wilden Trail Run benefit the Blenk Family Fund, established in collaboration with the KGH Foundation. This fund is dedicated to supporting youth mental health initiatives, focusing on building resilience and enhancing awareness of mental health services available to young people and their families in the Okanagan Valley and beyond.
“We aim to better understand and address where help is needed,” said the Wilden team. “Our goal is to inspire meaningful, long-term improvements and assist more young people in navigating challenging times.”
The event is designed to be family-friendly and inclusive, featuring the 1K kids’ run as an opportunity for younger participants to get active. For dog owners, the 5K run offers a chance to enjoy the trails with their pets, with Bosley’s Pet Store in Glenmore sponsoring the dog run and providing treats for every canine finisher. Additional family activities include a bouncy castle, lawn games, and face painting for the kids.
Participants in the 5K and 10K events will receive a special Wild One Run drawstring backpack as part of their race swag. Volunteers are also welcome to support the event and contribute to its success.
