The national mental health organization Aware is gearing up for its second annual “Big Splash for Aware” event, scheduled for Saturday, September 14. This initiative invites individuals across Ireland to participate in a swim or ‘dip’ at their favorite local spots, all in support of mental health.
Participants can register now for €23. Each registrant will receive a blue swimming hat adorned with the Aware sun icon, a symbol of hope and solidarity for mental health.
With 53 percent of Irish adults reporting experiences of depression at some point in their lives and 42 percent experiencing frequent anxiety, Aware continues to see significant demand for its services. The organization supports up to 40,000 individuals annually, providing crucial assistance to those affected by depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder.
Stephen Butterly, Head of Fundraising at Aware, expressed gratitude for the community support received during last year’s inaugural event. “The response to the first Big Splash for Aware was fantastic, with nearly 1,000 participants joining us at local swimming spots across Ireland. The collective spirit and generosity were truly inspiring, and we hope to see even greater participation this year. We encourage people to bring along friends, family, and their communities to make a meaningful impact.”
In addition to public participation, Butlers Chocolates is supporting this year’s event. Aisling Walsh, Marketing Director at Butlers Chocolates, announced that the company will contribute to the cause by donating €1 from every hot beverage sold in Butlers Chocolate Cafés nationwide on Wednesday, September 11. “We are proud to support the Big Splash for Aware,” Walsh said. “Butlers Chocolates recognizes the vital work Aware does and is delighted to partner with them for this year’s event.”
The Big Splash for Aware aims to raise essential funds to ensure the continued delivery of Aware’s services, while fostering community spirit and promoting mental health awareness throughout Ireland.
