The University Counseling Center will host “Light Up the Night” on Thursday, September 12, an on-campus event designed to underscore the importance of mental health and the array of free wellness services available to students. The event will run from 5 to 9 p.m. at Centennial Mall.
Dr. La Tasha Sullivan, Director of the Counseling Center, described the event as “the biggest mental health party on campus,” emphasizing its focus on community building, coping skills, and mental health resources. “We celebrate students having the power to enhance their mental health and well-being,” Sullivan said.
Attendees can enjoy food, music, and a variety of activities, including glow-in-the-dark archery, a car smash, and sunset yoga. Dr. Cassandra Haas, a clinical psychologist at the Counseling Center and chair of this year’s event, has coordinated the involvement of nearly 20 campus departments and several major local mental health agencies, including the Lucas County Mental Health Board and the National Alliance on Mental Illness Toledo Chapter.
The event is supported by multiple university offices, including the Student Advocacy Office, Office of Residence Life, Catherine S. Eberly Center for Women, Office of Recreational Services, Office of Student Engagement, and Office of Multicultural Student Success.
