The Mental Health Association (TMHA), a non-profit dedicated to mental health awareness, has introduced its global initiative, the “Coffee Foundation.” This campaign aims to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental illness and strives for a world free of stigma, shame, silence, and suicides.
The campaign, branded under the provocative slogan “Call Us Crazy,” invites individuals to “take five” and engage in candid discussions about mental health. This initiative comes at a crucial time, as mental health issues, especially among youth, are rising sharply, often leading to increased suicide risks. The launch coincides with World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10, 2024, underscoring its commitment to urgent mental health support.
Damien O’Brien, founder of TMHA, stated, “As human beings, we thrive on social connections. Coffee Foundation provides a platform, or the Trojan horse, for initiating conversations over coffee that can significantly enhance mental well-being. You don’t need to be an expert to make a difference.”
O’Brien emphasized, “This is not just a campaign; it’s a movement. By establishing our own brand, we aim to uphold our core values and transform the discourse around mental health, which is vital for suicide prevention.”
The Coffee Foundation seeks to dismantle barriers to open dialogue and foster a more empathetic approach to mental health, facilitating greater understanding and support.
