BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Congressman Nick Langworthy announced Thursday that Jamestown will receive $187,672 in federal funding to tackle mental health and substance abuse issues. The grant, awarded through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s Projects of Regional and National Significance Program, aims to enhance access to evidence-based prevention and treatment services.
This funding announcement follows a recent update from the Jamestown mayor’s office regarding an “alleged homelessness crisis” in the city.
“The City of Jamestown has been confronting the dual challenges of substance abuse and homelessness,” Congressman Langworthy stated. “This grant arrives at a crucial moment, providing vital support to address these pressing issues.”
Jamestown Mayor Kim Ecklund expressed gratitude for the funding, noting its importance in advancing efforts to combat substance abuse and mental health challenges. “Since taking office, my focus has been on supporting those affected by homelessness, addiction, and mental health issues,” Ecklund said. “This grant will significantly enhance our ability to make progress in these areas and improve our community’s well-being.”
