Online behavioral health company Talkspace has announced a new partnership with the Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA) to become its exclusive mental health technology provider. This collaboration aims to provide players, their families, and support teams with free, round-the-clock access to Talkspace’s self-guided therapy app, Talkspace Go, as well as discounted virtual therapy services.
Under the partnership, eligible professional tennis players and their families, aged 13 and older, along with their support teams, will receive one year of free access to Talkspace Go. This program includes personalized therapy courses and live, on-demand virtual classes supervised by therapists.
Players also have the option to access individual, couples, or teen therapy with unlimited sessions with a licensed therapist, covered by insurance. Those opting for out-of-pocket individual therapy will receive a $100 discount for the first month.
Talkspace offers therapy through a secure web and mobile platform, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory standards. Services include live video, audio, chat sessions, and unlimited asynchronous text messaging with licensed therapists.
Ahmad Nassar, Executive Director of the PTPA, highlighted the unique challenges faced by professional tennis players, such as frequent travel and the demands of individual sports. “This partnership with Talkspace allows us to support players’ mental well-being consistently throughout the year, enhancing our PTPA Mental Fitness Program and overall player health services,” Nassar said.
This move reflects a broader trend of professional sports organizations prioritizing mental health. In 2023, the United Soccer League Players Association also partnered with telehealth platform Onrise to offer comprehensive mental health services, aiming to accommodate the varied schedules of athletes.
