Canyon, Texas — Beginning this school year, Canyon Independent School District (ISD) is offering complimentary mental health resources to all its employees, acknowledging the critical need for mental health support in the current climate.
The new initiative provides access to online therapy, allowing staff members to connect with mental health professionals at their convenience. This service is available around the clock, enabling employees to seek support whenever needed.
Sierra Ybarra, a 7th grade science teacher at Randall Junior High School, praised the flexibility of the program. “We connect with a licensed therapist who coordinates their availability with ours. The e-therapy format allows us to schedule sessions around our work and personal commitments, including weekends,” Ybarra explained. “It’s been incredibly convenient to access these services during my conference periods.”
In a statement, Lisa Johnson, Canyon ISD’s Director of District Communications, outlined the objectives of the program. “These services are designed to support our staff in maintaining their well-being, managing stress, and staying balanced. This, in turn, enhances their ability to deliver high-quality education and support to our students.”
The introduction of this mental health program has been met with enthusiasm from teachers. Ybarra noted, “Receiving notification about the new services was a huge relief. As a newer teacher, the emotional demands can be overwhelming, and knowing that there’s support available at any time helps immensely in managing that stress.”
Canyon ISD emphasizes that this mental health initiative is part of a broader effort to support its staff. The district aims to ensure that these resources remain accessible and beneficial for as long as needed.
