DES MOINES, Iowa — Congressman Zach Nunn has announced a significant funding boost for Iowa’s efforts to combat substance abuse and mental health challenges. The $750,000 allocation will support a new initiative designed to expand resources for individuals struggling with these issues across the state.
Iowa, which currently ranks second nationwide for excessive alcohol consumption, reports that 23% of its adults consume between eight and 15 alcoholic drinks per week. This high rate of drinking underscores the urgent need for enhanced support services.
Nunn’s funding will be directed towards establishing additional rehabilitation and mental health centers throughout Iowa. The initiative aims to address the growing demand for these services and improve access to care.
Officials anticipate that the first of these new centers will be operational by October this year, marking an important step forward in the state’s efforts to provide comprehensive support for those in need.
