Haverhill Mayor Melinda E. Barrett is organizing a free community dinner this Tuesday, aimed at connecting residents with crucial mental health resources. The event, set to take place at the YMCA on Winter Street, will feature representatives from Haverhill police, schools, and various health organizations, all coming together to offer support and information on mental wellness.
Mental health professionals will be present to answer questions and provide guidance for adults, young adults, children, and teens seeking help. YMCA Regional Executive Director Tracy Fuller shared the background of the event during WHAV’s “Win for Breakfast” program, emphasizing the mayor’s commitment to addressing community needs.
“Earlier this spring, the mayor hosted a community breakfast at Somebody Cares, where she identified areas in the city where residents might need additional support. She approached us about hosting a similar event in the Acre neighborhood, and we’re excited to do so,” Fuller explained. “We’ve invited several mental health professionals, Haverhill Public Schools, Beth Israel Lahey Health, NFI, and others to join us.”
The dinner will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 13, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the YMCA, located at 81 Winter St., Haverhill.
“Our goal is to connect Haverhill residents with the resources they need, and make sure that anyone with questions or seeking support can find it. This is the mayor’s initiative, and we’re just happy to host it,” Fuller said. “We hope many people come, ask questions, get answers, and enjoy a meal together.”
To make the event more family-friendly, the YMCA will also provide a bouncy house and other activities for children, giving adults the opportunity to focus on obtaining the mental wellness information they need.
