San Mateo, CA – NAMI SMC, the local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is gearing up for its annual fundraising event, NAMIWalks, aimed at raising awareness and funds for mental health services. The nonprofit organization provides crucial support through free programs, advocacy efforts, support groups, and educational courses to enhance understanding of mental health conditions and support individuals and their families.
NAMI SMC relies heavily on the success of NAMIWalks to fund its initiatives. Last year’s event saw 630 participants, organized into 52 teams, who collectively raised over $247,000 for mental health causes.
The 2024 NAMIWalks is set to take place on October 5 at Seal Point Park in San Mateo, offering a choice of a 1K or 5K route along the picturesque bay area.
To kick off the 2024 season, NAMI SMC will host a celebration on Wednesday, August 7, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Sports Basement in Redwood City. The free event will feature appetizers, drinks, music, and raffle prizes. It will serve as an opportunity for participants to connect, learn more about the walk, and support the cause.
