WELLINGTON, NZ — Mental Health Minister Matt Doocey is inviting iwi-based and other kaupapa Māori organisations to apply for the first round of the new $10 million Mental Health and Addiction Community Sector Innovation Fund.
The minister launched the initial round, worth $5 million, today.
Doocey highlighted that the fund provides a significant opportunity for non-government organisations (NGOs) and community mental health and addiction providers to secure additional funding for initiatives aimed at improving access to mental health support.
“The Innovation Fund was inspired by grassroots organisations already making a difference in their communities,” Doocey said.
“Investing in our hard-working NGO and community mental health and addiction providers aligns with this government’s priority of increasing access to mental health and addiction support, expanding the workforce, emphasizing prevention and early intervention, and enhancing the effectiveness of support services.”
The request for proposals for the first round of $5 million funding opens today on the Government Electronic Tender Service. Doocey encourages providers, including iwi-based and other kaupapa Māori providers, to submit proposals through this open contestable procurement process.
“This investment underscores the government’s strong commitment to delivering better mental health and addiction outcomes for New Zealanders,” Doocey wrote in a statement.
The first batch of contracts for round one is expected to commence by early November.
