Avive Health, a leading provider of integrated private mental health services in Australia, has announced the opening of a new mental health hospital in Mornington Peninsula, Victoria. This facility represents a significant expansion in the group’s efforts to enhance mental health care across the country, with a total investment of AU$70 million.
The new hospital, along with a recently opened facility in Brisbane, will provide 123 beds to bolster the national healthcare system. Greg Procter, co-founder and co-CEO of Avive Health, emphasized the organization’s commitment to more than just treatment. “Our goal at Avive Health is to provide more than a place for treatment,” Procter stated. “We are dedicated to offering evidence-based services that cater to individuals’ overall wellbeing during their health and wellness recovery.”
The Mornington Peninsula hospital aims to foster an environment conducive to patient healing, drawing on research-backed methodologies. It will offer comprehensive care for a range of mental health issues, including depression, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, substance use disorders, and trauma experienced during development or adulthood.
Treatment options at the facility are diverse, including general adult psychiatry, specialized care for mood and anxiety disorders, medication management, therapy sessions, and support for alcohol rehabilitation. The hospital will also address trauma, offer support for individuals in high-stress professions, and promote mental wellbeing among women.
Mark Sweeney, co-founder and co-CEO, highlighted the importance of the therapeutic environment, stating, “Recognizing the connection between an individual’s health and their environment, we have created spaces that encourage healing and recovery throughout the treatment process.”
Dr. Matt McDornan, co-founder and chief medical officer of Avive Health, emphasized the hospital’s commitment to a trauma-informed approach. “Our facilities offer not only programs informed by trauma but also foster a culture informed by trauma to ensure that both clinical and non-clinical staff positively influence each patient’s experience,” Dr. McDornan said.
This new facility is poised to play a crucial role in advancing mental health care in Victoria, aligning with Avive Health’s mission to provide comprehensive and compassionate mental health services.
