BALTIMORE — Inside the Time Organization mental health clinic in West Baltimore, lives are being profoundly transformed.
Anthony Shivers has been a regular at the clinic for nearly a year. After struggling with substance abuse issues, Shivers found himself homeless and living what he described as a reckless lifestyle.
“Coming to Time has opened the doors for so many different avenues for me to improve the quality of my life. Since I’ve been here, things are definitely improving,” said Shivers.
The clinic offers a comprehensive range of services, including mental health support, therapy, and a robust reentry program. Recently, they have introduced a self-care station, transforming lives one haircut at a time.
“You feel better if you look better. I believe the improvement in quality of life and self-care is very important,” Shivers emphasized.
Jason Hamm-Bey, a mental health therapist at Time, highlighted the impact of the self-care station. “We’ve had clients come here after being homeless for years, without a haircut, shape-up, or trim. The self-care station has been a big hit among the patients,” he said.
Hamm-Bey explained that the self-care station serves multiple purposes. “They haven’t had the opportunity to feel good about themselves and see themselves as valuable individuals. The self-care station helps them achieve that.”
While a haircut may seem simple to some, for Shivers, it plays a crucial role in his journey to reenter society as a better man. “Hopefully, I shine for others to see that this process works. I aim to be a testimony to others as well,” Shivers shared.
The Time Organization continues to make a significant impact in the West Baltimore community, offering essential services that help individuals like Shivers rebuild their lives and regain their sense of self-worth.
