A mental health team serving Wolverhampton and Walsall has been lauded as providing a “gold standard” service by the NHS Trust.
This team of 16 professionals focuses on older adults, particularly those with delirium and dementia, as well as other complex patients. A recent Care Quality Commission (CQC) report praised the team for being fully compliant and safe in their care under the Mental Health Act, according to the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust (RWT).
Employed by both RWT and Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, the team has grown significantly from just six members in 2020.
“A lot of work has been carried out and improvements made for people with mental health problems,” stated Caroline Walker from RWT.
Dr. Manjeet Shehmar, chief medical officer at Walsall Healthcare, highlighted the team’s compassionate approach: “The staff treated each patient as their own loved one, and the support and kindness shown have made a huge difference.”
Beyond caring for older patients, the team also provides mental health support and guidance across the broader hospital trusts, ensuring comprehensive mental health care throughout the region.
