A local councillor is set to take a leap of faith from the skies to raise funds for a men’s mental health charity.
Elvis Stooke, a South Kesteven District Council member, will participate in a tandem skydive to support the Grantham Bhive Place2Bee club. This club offers men a safe space to discuss their issues confidentially with peers and volunteer staff.
The skydive is scheduled for Friday, July 19, at Sibson Aerodrome, near Peterborough.
Overcoming Fears for a Cause
Stooke, who represents Belmont Ward in Grantham, committed to supporting a local charity upon his election in 2023. He expressed a particular connection with the Bhive group.
“I’ll be dealing with just one hour of fear – and believe me, heights are one of my biggest fears,” Stooke admitted. “But this pales in comparison to what some people face daily just to lead what we might call a normal life.”
Previously, Stooke’s skydive attempt was canceled on the morning of the jump due to bad weather.
“I would ask anyone who can afford it to help me get closer to my £5,000 target,” he urged. “If these men can get through each day with their issues, I’m sure I can parachute out of a plane for their future.”
Stooke’s courageous act aims to spotlight the importance of mental health support and encourage community contributions to the cause.
