GOREY, WEXFORD – In a heartwarming display of community spirit, three groups from north Wexford came together to organize a successful fundraising event, raising €2,222 for the local mental health service, Talk to Tom. The event took place on Friday, April 26, in Gorey Town Park and featured a 5km walk/run and a penalty shootout competition.
The collaborating groups were St. Aidan’s Day Service, Gorey Rangers, and Gorey Community School Transition Year (TY) students. Their joint efforts culminated in a day filled with activity, camaraderie, and a shared goal of supporting mental health in the community.
The funds were raised entirely through participant registrations and donations during the event. Following the activities, a cheque presentation was held, featuring a friendly soccer match between St. Aidan’s and Gorey Community School TY students at the Gorey Rangers pitch. The day concluded with refreshments, celebrating the community’s collective effort and success.
Talk to Tom, the recipient of the funds, is a vital service in the community, providing support and resources for those struggling with mental health issues. The €2,222 raised will significantly aid their mission to offer critical mental health services.
The three organizing groups extended heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated, donated, and supported the event, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in addressing mental health challenges.
