The MUHC Department of Psychiatry and Mental Health Mission made a remarkable impact at the recent Pharmaprix Run, securing the top fundraising position in the Montreal edition of the event held on June 9. Despite the rainy weather, the team’s efforts contributed to a total of $180,656 raised, with their own contribution amounting to $5,081.
Dr. Karine Igartua, Chief of Psychiatry, praised the event’s positive atmosphere. “This year’s run, despite the rain, was a beautiful morning filled with many smiles,” she remarked. Dr. Igartua highlighted the multifaceted benefits of the event, noting that it fosters exercise, community, belonging, and altruism. “It is a great way to do good for ourselves and our community,” she added.
The funds raised will be directed to the Montreal General Hospital Foundation to enhance access to mental health services and resources for women and the broader community. Dr. Igartua detailed the allocation of the funds, stating, “It will finance mind-body/yoga interventions for patients of the Mental Health Mission as well as research to evaluate the efficacy of treatments we offer to sexual and gender minority patients in the McGill University Sexual Identity Centre.”
The MUHC Department of Psychiatry and Mental Health Mission’s participation not only underscores their commitment to mental health but also sets a commendable example of community involvement and support.
