Yucca Valley-based nonprofit organization Bezerk Productions is set to unveil its latest initiative, a mental health coloring book titled “See, See, See, More! Listen With Your Eyes,” during a celebratory event from 3 to 5 p.m. on June 20. Hosted at Birdcage Comics Cafe, located at 165 W. Hospitality Lane, Unit 17, San Bernardino, the unveiling marks a significant milestone for the organization and promises an afternoon of artistic engagement and community celebration.
The coloring book, a culmination of a project sponsored by a California Arts Council/Creative Corps grant, has been crafted by artists who themselves navigate the emotional behavioral spectrum. Notably, artists Cathy Dye, Lilian Iskandar, Mia Jette, Erica Mosco, Jeff Pippin, Jeff Pope, and Denise Smith will be in attendance to discuss their creative process and share insights into their work, as per a recent news release.
Attendees of the event will have the opportunity to receive complimentary copies of the coloring book, providing them with a tangible tool for mental well-being and creative expression.
Established in 2001, Bezerk Productions initially gained recognition through its flagship project, Cracked Eggs, an interdisciplinary troupe comprising individuals on the emotional behavioral spectrum. Over the years, the organization has expanded its outreach efforts, with a recent focus on providing workshops to clubhouses and Transitional Age Youth (TAY) centers in San Bernardino County.
The development of the mental health coloring book was made possible through a Creative Corps grant from the California Arts Council, with Bezerk Productions spearheading a yearlong program at the Birdcage Comics Cafe in San Bernardino. Led by Linda Sibio, founder of Bezerk Productions, and supported by a team of teaching artists including Claudia Bucher, Georgeann Deen, Leslie Matamoros, Neil Doshi, Erica Mosco, and Jeff Pippin, the program aimed to empower participants through visual art techniques derived from Sibio’s acclaimed class, “The Insanity Principle.”
Following months of student workshops and artistic exploration, a selection of 100 drawings from the 400 produced during the program have been curated for inclusion in the coloring book.
The gala event promises an enriching experience for attendees, featuring captivating performances by Erica Mosco, Jeff Pippin, and his band, culminating in an award ceremony to recognize the contributions of all involved in bringing this transformative project to fruition.
