The Anchorage Chamber of Commerce recently convened a “Make it Monday” forum, focusing on strategies to enhance mental well-being within workplaces. Jessica Kopischke, CEO and owner of Frontier Health and Wellness, shared insights on improving mental wellness options for Alaskans in professional settings and accessing treatment solutions.
Kopischke underscored the prevalence of untreated mental health conditions as a leading cause of employee disability claims in the U.S., emphasizing the responsibility of employers to cultivate a supportive environment conducive to mental well-being.
“As an employer, fostering mutual respect between you and your employees is paramount. Creating an environment where employees feel valued and safe is essential,” Kopischke emphasized.
Highlighting the importance of awareness and resource utilization, Kopischke encouraged employers to familiarize themselves with available mental health resources both within the workplace and within the community. Understanding insurance coverage, Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs), and accessible providers can facilitate timely access to treatment.
Acknowledging the unique challenges of seeking mental health treatment in Alaska, Kopischke addressed the limitations inherent in the state’s healthcare landscape. Despite these challenges, she emphasized the importance of acknowledging one’s struggles and seeking support when needed.
“Mental health discussions can be challenging, particularly in Alaska where resources are limited. However, it’s crucial to recognize that it’s okay not to be okay. Seeking help is a necessary step towards managing mental health,” Kopischke concluded.
The presentation underscored the significance of prioritizing mental well-being in the workplace and empowering employees to access necessary support systems, contributing to a healthier and more productive workforce.
