A new safe space for children in need of mental health support has opened in Council Bluffs as part of Children’s Square USA’s Crisis Care Anywhere program, which was introduced in February.
Program Details:
Name: Crisis Care Anywhere
Location: Children’s Square USA, Council Bluffs
Services: Personal assessments, therapy, skill building, crisis intervention
Features of the Safe Space:
Facilities: Kitchen, bathrooms, multiple bedrooms for overnight stays
Duration: Families can stay on-site for up to five days
Support: 24/7 access to mental health professionals, daily therapy sessions
Statement from Jonathan Holland, Chief Program Officer:
“If they’re struggling with anxiety, depression, or something like that at any type of crisis level we can either work with them here on site or out in the community. A family can come here with their child in crisis and stay on site for up to five days while they connect with mental health professionals every day, do some skill building, and build that future plan.”
Feedback from Heather Yenney, Youth Mental Health Worker:
“I think once the word gets out, residents are going to be like, ‘Hey, there’s a place we can go.’ We’re able to connect you to that therapist 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and you see them within 24 hours.”
Access and Qualifications:
There are no specific qualifications required for kids and teens to receive help.
