A bookshop in Codsall is donating mental health books to schools and nurseries to help children better understand and manage their emotions.
Little Pickle’s Bookshelf launched this initiative in conjunction with Mental Health Awareness Week. Local businesses have sponsored the project, resulting in the creation of 10 book bundles for nominated schools across Staffordshire, including Codsall, Brewood, and Perton.
Emma Davis, the owner of Little Pickle’s Bookshelf, highlighted the positive reception from schools and the potential impact of the donations.
“These books cover a range of crucial topics, from handling emotions to safely navigating social media, suitable for children from pre-school to secondary school,” Davis said. “Children often come to school with big feelings, and books can help them feel less anxious. They also enhance younger children’s vocabulary, communication skills, and understanding of the world.”
Davis, who also teaches at St Nicholas CE First School in Codsall, expressed gratitude for the local businesses’ “really generous” support and encouraged others to participate in the initiative.
“Schools have been excited when I reach out, and it’s incredibly rewarding to be part of this effort,” she added.
