Brock University is gearing up to champion kindness and compassion during this year’s Mental Health Week, calling upon its employees to actively participate in promoting well-being.
Scheduled from Monday, May 6, to Friday, May 10, the week will feature a series of wellness activities aimed at fostering a culture of compassion and connectivity among the university community.
Organized by Brock’s Health Management and Wellness team in collaboration with the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), the week’s lineup of events aims to facilitate relaxation and interpersonal connections within the workplace.
Among the highlights is the annual barbecue luncheon scheduled for Tuesday, May 7, at noon in the DeCew Residence Dining Hall. Co-hosted with Aramark, a portion of the proceeds from each $15 ticket sold will be directed towards supporting the CMHA — Niagara branch. Interested employees are required to RSVP via ExperienceBU by Tuesday, April 23, before 4 p.m., with payments to be made in cash at the event.
The luncheon is just one component of a diverse array of activities planned for the week. Workshops on topics such as Considered Communications and Strategies to Prevent Burnout and Secondary Trauma will be offered, along with a guided tour showcasing campus plants ideal for garden enthusiasts and a yoga session amidst the tranquil cherry blossoms.
Citing a recent study conducted by the CMHA and Maru/Matchbox, which revealed that 92 percent of Canadians identify as compassionate, the initiative underscores the profound benefits of both giving and receiving compassion, as well as cultivating self-compassion, for mental well-being.
In addition to participating in the scheduled events, employees are encouraged to contribute to fostering a culture of kindness by sharing random acts of kindness notes on the chalkboard wall opposite the Brock Card office in Thistle Complex.
To register for any of the Mental Health Week activities or to stay informed about upcoming Health, Safety, and Wellness events for employees, individuals are urged to visit ExperienceBU.
