A recent report from Lifesum, a global platform promoting healthy eating and wellbeing, sheds light on a significant shift among Gen Z and millennials in the workplace. Titled “2024 State of Healthy Eating and Wellbeing Report,” the study explores the role of customized nutrition in employee wellbeing, particularly focusing on the younger demographic.
Key findings indicate a notable willingness among Gen Z and millennials to quit their current jobs in favor of positions that better support their mental health. Approximately 71% of the surveyed 10,000 respondents from these generations expressed their readiness to leave jobs for improved wellbeing support.
Moreover, 69% of respondents conveyed that they would be more productive if their employers prioritized their wellbeing. Strikingly, 31% indicated a willingness to consider a pay cut in exchange for a happier and healthier work environment.
Markus Falk, CEO at Lifesum, emphasizes the report as a wake-up call for employers to understand the shifting priorities of Gen Z and millennials, who are redefining loyalty by prioritizing personal wellbeing in their career decisions.
The report delves into various factors contributing to a fulfilling work experience, including health and wellness goals, stress management, and sleep. Trends highlighted in the report include the popularity of “snackable supplements” for convenient consumption of vitamins, adaptogenic foods known for stress relief, and foods promoting healthy sleep to combat the challenges of a demanding workday.
The top three health and wellness goals prioritized by Gen Z and millennials include physical fitness (88%), mental health and stress management (71%), and sleep quality (54%). Workplace stress emerged as a critical concern, with 75% expressing a willingness to leave their current employers due to a toxic work culture.
This report underscores the evolving expectations of the younger workforce and the increasing importance they place on holistic wellbeing in their professional lives. Employers are urged to recognize and adapt to these shifting priorities to foster a healthier and more productive work environment.
