Over recent years, Bangladesh has demonstrated substantial strides in attending to the mental health requirements of its populace. In a noteworthy development in 2018, the country sanctioned a Mental Health Act and formulated a mental health policy emphasizing community-based services and assistance.
The imperative to address the mental health of children and adolescents within the educational system became more evident during the protracted closures of all educational institutions amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Recognizing this pressing need, UNICEF collaborated with the Ministry of Education to institute school-based Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) programs. This collaboration also sought to seamlessly integrate mental health and psychosocial well-being into the national curriculum transformation.
This concerted effort aims to fortify mental health support mechanisms within schools, acknowledging the profound impact of the pandemic on the well-being of students. The collaboration between UNICEF and the Ministry of Education underscores a commitment to fostering a more comprehensive approach to mental health care within the educational framework of Bangladesh.
