New South Wales (NSW), Australia – The University of Newcastle and Hunter Medical Research Institute have unveiled a cutting-edge digital health tool designed to provide real-time treatment and support for mental health and addiction concerns across NSW.
Known as the eCLiPSE online portal, this innovative platform offers free and round-the-clock access to a range of services. These services include online screening, telehealth treatment, access to resources, and clinical support services, with a specific focus on addressing co-occurring substance use issues and mental health conditions like depression, trauma, and anxiety.
One distinctive feature of the portal is its moderated social media network, where individuals can openly share their experiences with health professionals and fellow users. Additionally, it provides a wealth of resources and services aimed at assisting families and friends who are supporting loved ones dealing with mental health and substance use challenges.
Professor Frances Kay-Lambkin, co-founder of eCLiPSE and CEO of Hunter Medical Research Institute, emphasized the collaborative aspect of this initiative. The team behind eCLiPSE intends to work closely with mental health and alcohol and other drug (AOD) clinicians across both the public and private healthcare sectors to ensure that individuals have easy access to the portal.
While the eCLiPSE portal does not serve as a standalone replacement for traditional mental health and AOD services, it has the potential to revolutionize mental health and addiction treatment on a national scale, according to Professor Kay-Lambkin.
She stated, “eCLiPSE holds a lot of promise in being able to transform the way we all seek and access support for our mental health and wellbeing.” She also noted that research has indicated that the programs offered through eCLiPSE can be just as effective as traditional therapy provided through conventional means.
This digital health portal represents a significant step toward improving accessibility to mental health and addiction support services, providing individuals with additional options for seeking the care and assistance they need.
