A recent survey has unveiled the considerable toll stress takes on the Indian workforce, with approximately 76% of workers highlighting its detrimental influence on work performance. Nearly half of the respondents, at 49%, also expressed similar concerns regarding the toll on their mental health.
On a global scale, the impact of stress on work performance resonates among almost two-thirds, or 65%, of workers. Nearly half, standing at 47%, echoed analogous apprehensions about their mental well-being. While these figures indicate a slight decline from the previous year’s 53%, the observations are drawn from a survey encompassing over 32,000 workers across 17 countries.
Titled “People at Work 2023: A Global Workforce View,” the survey delves into employee perspectives on the current landscape of work and probes their expectations.
Furthermore, the survey underscores an escalating perception among professionals that their managers are offering diminishing support concerning mental health in the workplace. In the Indian context, the proportion of workers who perceive managerial support has dwindled from 80% in 2022 to 71% in 2023. On a global scale, this metric has descended from 70% in 2022 to 64% in 2023.
While numerous employers exhibited substantial support for mental health and stress management during the pandemic, it remains imperative for them to persist in their commitment to fostering conducive work environments that prioritize employees’ mental well-being.
