In a significant step to improve mental health services in Central Visayas, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-Central Visayas has launched an innovative online platform aimed at providing mental health and psychosocial support to individuals and families affected by crises. The Wireless Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (WiSUPPORT) platform is now operational, making mental health assistance more accessible to those in need.
WiSUPPORT: A Lifeline for Mental Health
WiSUPPORT is designed to provide free and accessible mental health services, including psychosocial consultations and psychological first aid. The platform also offers referrals to partner organizations that can provide additional assistance. According to Tonyson Luther Lee, Assistant Regional Director for Administration at DSWD-Central Visayas, the platform is a response to the increasing need for mental health support, especially during crises.
“The platform allows individuals to access mental health services from the comfort of their homes,” Lee explained. “Through WiSUPPORT, we aim to ensure that mental health and psychosocial support are available and easily accessible to those who need it most.”
Promoting Mental Health Awareness
The initiative aligns with Republic Act 11036, the National Mental Health Policy, which calls for the integration of mental health services across the country. Lee emphasized that WiSUPPORT is not just about providing immediate mental health support, but also about promoting a broader understanding of the importance of mental well-being.
“We want to raise awareness about self-care, reduce the stigma and discrimination surrounding mental illness, and foster greater acceptance of mental health services within our communities,” Lee stated.
Accessible and Convenient Service
WiSUPPORT operates from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding holidays, ensuring that individuals can access support during standard working hours. Lee encouraged individuals struggling with mental health challenges to seek professional help through the platform instead of facing their issues alone.
By providing technology-driven mental health support, the initiative is a step toward addressing the mental health needs of the people in Central Visayas, ensuring that help is just a click away for those who need it most.
