TROY, Alabama — Troy University has enhanced its mental health services for full-time Troy Campus students by partnering with TimelyCare, a leading provider of virtual health and well-being resources in higher education. This new initiative provides students with around-the-clock access to various mental health services, free of charge and without the barriers of traditional insurance.
Herbert Reeves, Dean of Students at Troy University, expressed excitement about the expanded support. “We are encouraged by being able to offer our students immediate access to mental health support, whether it be crisis counseling, medication or psychiatry support, or general emotional support,” he said. “At TROY, our students and their well-being come first.”
Through the partnership with TimelyCare, students will have access to a wide range of services, including:
- On-demand mental health and emotional support (TalkNow)
- Appointment-based mental health counseling (up to 9 sessions each academic year)
- Psychiatric support
- Health coaching
- Basic Needs assistance
- Care navigation
- Peer support community
- Digital self-care content
While the University’s Student Counseling Center will continue to operate with an appointment-only basis, this partnership ensures students can receive support at any time, even outside of regular business hours.
Mental health is a significant concern for college students, with many citing it as a major reason for leaving school. According to a TimelyCare survey, 64% of students are more likely to graduate if they have access to mental health resources. Additionally, three-quarters of college students who used virtual mental health services through TimelyCare reported improved mental health, including 100% of students who had been at risk for suicide. The service’s ability to provide support after hours demonstrates the growing need for 24/7 mental health resources.
Grace Wagstaff, TROY’s Title IX coordinator and leader of the TimelyCare initiative, emphasized the importance of comprehensive support: “We know that TimelyCare, in collaboration with continued in-person counseling and support at our Student Counseling Center, will further empower our students’ wellness, giving them freedom to fully embrace both personal and academic fulfillment.”
Since its founding in 2017, TimelyCare has supported over 2.3 million students, educators, and staff across more than 350 campuses nationwide. Its comprehensive suite of services includes mental health counseling, emotional support, medical care, psychiatric care, health coaching, student success coaching, and more, helping students thrive in all aspects of their lives.
Luke Hejl, CEO and co-founder of TimelyCare, praised the work of campus mental health professionals. “As demand for mental health support continues to increase, a team-based approach to care can ensure students stay healthy and more likely to achieve their goals,” Hejl said. “TimelyCare partners with campus professionals to improve student health and well-being and fuel student success.”
This partnership reflects Troy University’s commitment to addressing the mental health needs of its students and ensuring that they have the support necessary to succeed both personally and academically.
