The 3rd annual “Walk 4 Mental Health” took place this afternoon at Bonita Lakes Park, drawing a crowd of community members to raise awareness about mental health and promote well-being for the year ahead.
The event featured several guest speakers from the local community, each emphasizing the importance of mental wellness and the need for open discussions about mental health struggles.
Zach Ball Sr., the organizer of the walk, shared a deeply personal motivation for his commitment to the cause. “I wanted to put on this kind of event because I lost my father in 2018. He committed suicide, and I just want to honor him, those who have ended their lives, and the families affected by such tragedies,” Ball said. “It’s okay to not be okay. It’s okay to talk to a therapist, to speak with someone genuine—just talk to somebody. Somebody loves you.”
The event, which was free to attend, also offered refreshments for participants following the walk. It provided an opportunity not only for physical activity but for participants to connect and reflect on the importance of mental health support within the community.
This year’s walk served as a reminder that mental health is a priority that deserves attention year-round, with resources and conversations continuing to grow in importance.
