The Richmond Firefighters Charitable Society is calling for sponsors to support next year’s charity golf tournament, following a successful event earlier this year that raised significant funds for youth mental health initiatives.
The inaugural tournament, held earlier this year, raised $50,000, which was donated to Foundry Richmond to help expand youth counselling services in the community. In addition, the society contributed another $10,000 to fund youth day trips, further supporting the mental well-being of local young people.
To surpass this year’s achievements, the Charitable Society is seeking sponsors for next year’s event, aiming to raise even more funds for youth mental health programs.
Alex Babalos, a spokesperson for the Richmond Firefighters Charitable Society, emphasized the importance of keeping the raised funds within the local community. “We wanted to ensure that the funds raised stay in Richmond to reduce barriers and increase resources for youth mental health,” Babalos said. “Our goal is to help provide a part-time counsellor at Foundry for two years, which would significantly reduce wait times and make free counselling more accessible to youth.”
Next year’s charity golf tournament will take place at Tsawwassen Springs Golf Course on May 29, with all proceeds going toward supporting Foundry and its youth mental health services.
The Richmond Firefighters Charitable Society hopes that with the support of local sponsors, the event will continue to grow and make a meaningful impact on the mental health of youth in the Richmond area.
