Starbucks has inaugurated its first Community Store in Singapore at Active Garden, located within the scenic Gardens by the Bay. This new initiative aims to promote mental wellness and strengthen community connections, embodying Starbucks’ commitment to fostering inclusive, supportive spaces for individuals to connect and engage.
With mental health becoming a pressing issue in Singapore—where nearly one in three youths aged 15 to 35 face significant challenges related to depression, anxiety, or stress—Starbucks is joining forces with Gardens by the Bay and MINDSET Care Limited to drive mental health awareness. Through this collaboration, a portion of proceeds from beverages sold at the Community Store will fund workshops and activities dedicated to mental wellness, directly benefiting local organizations working in this field.
The new Community Store aligns with a broader Starbucks goal of supporting communities and creating opportunities through over 50 such stores across the Asia Pacific region.
An Environment for Mental Wellness and Community Engagement
The Community Store at Gardens by the Bay aims to integrate mental wellness advocacy into a tranquil environment, surrounded by lush greenery and waterfront views. The store is designed with panels providing self-care tips and mental wellness resources, encouraging visitors to prioritize their mental health. Artworks throughout the store highlight human connections, celebrating Starbucks’ mission to build an inclusive, welcoming community.
“Starbucks has always been committed to cultivating human connections. With our first Community Store in Singapore, we’re striving to make a positive impact and foster meaningful relationships that champion mental wellness in our community,” said Patrick Kwok, General Manager of Starbucks Singapore.
Building Partnerships for Wellness
A key component of the store’s mission is its partnerships, notably with Gardens by the Bay, where mental wellness activities will be held. Community workshops, such as aromatherapy and journaling sessions, will be led by Gardens by the Bay’s volunteers, while Starbucks baristas will conduct coffee appreciation sessions.
In addition, the Community Store will host “Wellness Friday” on the second Friday of each month. This program invites seniors and caregivers to participate in activities including gardening in Active Garden, mindfulness sessions, and sensory tours at the Flower Dome or Cloud Forest.
Starbucks employees, known as partners, will also join Gardens by the Bay volunteers throughout the year to accompany seniors from nursing homes on visits to the Gardens, promoting positive mental health and well-being.
The long-standing partnership with MINDSET Care Limited has been integral to Starbucks’ mental health initiatives, including awareness campaigns, fundraising, and Mini-MINDSET Days, where mental health clients and caregivers engage in store-based activities and workshops. At the new Community Store, MINDSET will help curate wellness resources and facilitate events, offering beneficiaries an enriching experience at the Gardens through specialized programs that promote mental wellness and community integration.
Through these collaborative efforts, Starbucks aims to leave a lasting positive impact on the community, advancing its advocacy for mental wellness and fostering a supportive environment where individuals can connect and thrive.
